Startling and informative opening You answer the phone at the desk in your office. “Baby murderer!” the person on the other end screams at you. You just hang up the phone and go on with your work; these calls are just an everyday incident for you if you work at an abortion clinic. In 1999, 1 out of every 5 abortion clinics in the U.S. experienced violence. Quick summary of main question that I mean to answer or reason I think this topic is important I want to show reasons why abortion is murder/ infanticide and should only be okay if it endangers the woman’s life. I also want to show the other options besides abortion, and the dangers of not making abortion illegal. Two or three most interesting things I learned from research One interesting thing I learned from research is that in a partial birth abortions, the doctor delivers the baby halfway, so only the head is still in the woman, then drills a hole in the baby’s head and puts a suction device in it to collapse the head in order to kill the baby. Another interesting fact that I learned from my research is that studies say that having an abortion is safer than carrying a pregnancy to term. And, my last interesting fact I learned from my research, is that in a 1987 study of women post abortion, 60% experienced suicidal ideation, 28% attempted suicide, 18% attempted suicide more than once. Confirmation or rejection of one or two commonly held beliefs about this topic Most people automatically think that the only people who get abortions are teenage girls who don’t want their parents to find out that they are pregnant, that’s just the stereotype of the women who get abortions, but actually a lot of the women who get abortions get them for their health, or the health of the fetus, and it isn’t just teenage girls, it’s also grown women with several children who are in a stable relationship. Something to connect the topic to the reader's life so that he/she will care If you have siblings, think about how much time you spend with them, what an impact they had on your life, think about how it would be if that person wasn’t in your life because your mother and father decided to abort them because they were embarrassed about it. You would never have been able to meet your brother or sister; you would be so different, and just because your mom thought that people would think badly of her if she was pregnant. A closing surprise...intriguing fact, quotation, or discovery from my own research Abortion should be illegal, and only in certain situations should it be morally right. The fetus is alive, it is a person. It eats, breathes, and depends on its mother to keep it safe. If the mother decides she doesn’t want to keep the baby safe, who does it have to depend on? If abortion is illegal, the fetus doesn’t need to worry about that. Benson FAQ
